The founder of Def Jam Records Russell Simmons was interviewed on CNN’s “American Morning”. He was asked why he follows a vegan diet. He also discusses Barack Obama and yoga. *note* Although Russell does follow a vegan diet he is not a vegan. He does wear leather.

the issue that i found, nutritionally, with veganism is that you need to know about whole/incomplete proteins, and heme and non heme iron. It’s not hard to look up and find out what you need to do, but PLEASE my fellow vegans/veggies, know your facts.

when the westerners think of “veggie” they think of salads, tofu, and soy. That is not veggie thats rabbit food lol. Look at south east Asian cuisine 90% of the food is veggie spanning from many vegetables and other foods. Going veggie is not bad or impossible but its best to do it step by step. Once a day for half a year and working onwards. Having some meat in your life is not bad as well, its all up to you.

@ChallengeVHS Most of Asia and especially China’s main diet consists of soy products over 60% actually for centuries now. Various studies have been performed stating the health of these people, in this case its amazing how much healthier they are compared to Americans who mainly consume meat and dairy. Dont believe nonsense about soy being toxic or bad for your health, most likely it was published by dairy owned corporations. Just do your research. 1Luv

  4. Niccaz2005 says:

@canadianroot Soy is far from toxic for humans what you read is a myth and I know because I read many faulty articles stating how bad soy is. Fact is soy is one of the healthiest plants a human can consume, i suggest you read a couple books on nutrition starting with ” The China study ” Dont let faulty articles and people who claim to know about nutrition misguide you about soy.

  12. canadianroot says:

@wglianimaliliberi ABSOLUTELY true. soy, in fact, unless fermented, and from non-GMO, is toxic in anything but tiny amounts. We do not need it. Phyto-toxins, hormones, etc. I’d like to go vegan again, but it’s tough here in Korea. I arrived as one, but I lasted about a year or so. I’m moving in that direction, though. Here’s hoping.

  13. ajvisual says:

@ajvisual Sorry Daisy DD Whales are mammals and they’re bigger than Elephants and they even eat seals

  14. daisydd11 says:

@ajvisual Not true, the largest and most powerful animals are all vegetarian. Elephants, gorillas, etc.

  15. ajvisual says:

The strongest animals and mammals on the planet are carnivorous and eat vegans for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hahaha Ask Siegfried and Roy’s Tiger

Well done Russell. I myself have recently turned fully vegan after years and year of eating meat, due to being informed of the horrors involved in obtaining animal products for our consumption.

Most of us have not got a clue what goes on. Watch vids like ‘Meet Your Meat’ (search for it on youtube), and get the knowledge I use to be real lazy, now I’m energized to the max. Best decision I ever made.

Remember, knowledge is power – peace!

  19. wglianimaliliberi says:

@ChallengeVHS You do NOT need soy AT ALL. I’m vegan and I never ever ever ever ever eat it (and i mean soy and ALL food that comes from it, from tofu to what not).. So, stop giving excuses… stop the killing, care for your body more and help the Earth. Go vegan.

  20. wglianimaliliberi says:

@jenevajones991 People’s look don’t necessarily depend on their diet. A vegan diet can make you healthy and your skin will be better and you’ll feel great and have a lot less health problems but it can’t make an ugly persone beautiful :)

  21. shasanni says:

@wglianimaliliberi exactly! i don’t like soy products and they r unnecessary. i love quinoa! who needs that fancy vegan food?

  22. shasanni says:

@ChallengeVHS u don’t need to eat soy to be vegan =)
and u mean “unfermented soy” like tofu. fermented soy like tempeh in moderate amounts is fine.

  23. wglianimaliliberi says:

@ChallengeVHS you need ZERO soy to be vegan. I am and I NEVER ever eat soy or soy milk or tofu or seitan and all that stuff. You can just eat beans, chickpeas, peas and lentils for your protein and of course NUTS !!

  24. thombeed says:

speaking out how it is. Go vegan. Nice to hear someone on CNN talking about Veganism

  25. blackman666ful says:
